Treaty 7 was signed on September 22, 1877, at Blackfoot Crossing (LINK), located on the Bow River in what is now southern Alberta. This agreement was between the Canadian Crown and several First Nations, including the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, Tsuu T'ina, and Stoney-Nakoda peoples. The treaty aimed to facilitate the Canadian government's planned transcontinental railway and westward expansion by gaining access to Indigenous lands, though its interpretation and long-term impacts are viewed differently by the Crown and the First Nations.
