Happy Diwali

We wish all of our families who celebrate Diwali an amazing weekend of celebration, feasting and connecting with family members.

Today was a joy filled day at Chris Akkerman as so many of our students and staff wore their cultural clothing. It is incredible to see how proud your children are to share their cultural clothing with us, our team and their friends/ classmates. Your children are eager to share the names of their outfits, who either made or gave them the clothing and what is unique and special about what they are wearing. They are beautiful, amazing and joyful children. Thank you for sharing them with us. Thank you for sharing parts of your culture and celebrations with us all. We look forward to having this opportunity to celebrate and learn from all of our families as the year continues!

A note from the office

November 1st is the last day to complete your demographic verifications. Next week our team will begin to call all families who have not yet completed this task. Please know, when our team has to call families and request that they complete this task it takes adult time away from our students. We appreciate it when the adults on our team are with students. Please ensure you have completed your verifications so our team members can continue to focus on the most important thing – our students.

School Fees

Lunch room supervision, transportation, fieldtrips are all part of school fees. If you have not yet started paying for lunchroom supervision or transportation, please ensure you log into your MyCBE account and access the fee section. All students at CAS remain here for lunch and therefor all families need to pay for lunchroom supervision. Please sign up for lunchroom to ensure you are receiving the fees monthly. It is easier to pay a monthly bill rather than a huge lump sum at the end of the year. Thank you for your attention to this detail.

Cultural and Religious Celebrations Survey

Thank you to all the families who completed the Chris Akkerman School Cultural Celebration survey, that closed on October 31, 2024. Over 100 families participated in the survey!  We will share the results of that in next week’s message.

Poppies for Remembrance Day

On November 7th, CAS is having a Remembrance Day assembly.  Students are invited to bring coins for donation that day, for the Canadian Poppy Fund.  All donations go towards the Veterans of Canada.  Students will wear their poppies for the assembly as a symbol of peace and taking time to honor all those who serve our nation.
