Welcome Back Chris Akkerman Families! If you are no longer attending Cheis Akkerman school kindly call the office on Monday to let Ms Shilpa know. Happy back to school everyone! We trust that you all had an amazing summer, filled with fun memories, excitement and safety. It was wonderful to see all your smiling faces, clean uniforms and backpacks as you started off the school year. Please remember to label all your children’s belongings so that they can care for them and return home with them. As the weather changes, be ready to dress for rain, sun and any weather that can come about in our city. (no umbrellas please). Please save the date for our Welcome Back Picnic and meet the teacher event. We will have 5 food trucks at our school on September 12th from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. The food trucks are as follows: Uzo Icecream, WonTon Ninja, Peroghy Boys, and Vasilli’s Greek. Families are welcome to come and sit in our field with their own lawn chairs and picnic blankets and get to know one another. Stay tuned for details from your teachers about registering for meet the teacher night.

Staffing Updates In the office: Mrs. Scherwitz has moved to a school much closer to home. Ms Shilpa Kawale will be the new Admin E Secretary Ms Aziza Abouhassan is our new C Secretary
Our teaching team: Ms Gunnip our former French teacher and Ms Barrett our grade 2 teacher have both retired from the CBE. Mme Vania Kortmann is our French Teacher Ms Petersen is joining our team in place of Ms Sener who is on leave Ms Philip will be joining the grade 1 team this week and filling in for Ms Boak who is on Matrnity leave. Ms Willison, Ms Stahl and Mrs Holman have also joined our teaching team.
We have three new Education Assistants who have joined our team: Nisrin Abdul-Rahman, Angie Ostrander, and Saira Umair
Transportation Thank you for all your help, working together to make our school year start-up a success! Please remember to register your child for the bus if you haven’t done so already. Busses leave the school promptly after dismissal at 2:35 (Monday to Thursday) and 11:35 on Friday. If you wish to pick your child up from school and not ride the bus, you must inform the office by 1:30 pm (M – Th) or 10:00 am (F) so that we can update the bus attendance. Here is where the school busses pick up students daily: Front Street: A,B,E,H,I Alley: C,D,F,G,J You may pick your child up from the bus. Please tell the driver and the bus monitor who you are so they can mark your child as a pick-up. Important Bus J Update: Following a safety audit, it was determined that the stop would be relocated to “Eastbound Cornerstone Boulevard NE after Cornergate Row NE at mailboxes”. This stop change will take effect on September 11, 2024.
Water Restrictions The entire City of Calgary is under water restrictions. What is your family doing to save water? This is what the City of Calgary recommends! Don't · Water lawns, gardens, flowers, trees and shrubs with City water · Use outdoor automatic sprinkler systems · Fill outdoor pools or hot tubs · Wash outdoor surfaces, including: · Windows (unless completed by a licensed window washing company) · Exterior building surfaces · Sidewalks, driveways or walkways · Fill fountains or decorative water features · Wash your car in the driveway or street · Use water for construction purposes such as grading, compaction or dust control Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this time. Do · Capture rainwater and greywater inside your home to water plants and gardens. · Visit a pick up station to collect non-potable river water for landscape and garden use. |
