Online Access to Decodable Books

The CBE has just launched an online library featuring decodable books. This library is free to use and can be accessed at: https://sites.google.com/educbe.ca/cbe-decodable-digital-library/home.

Decodable books are a great tool for students who are still learning how to read. The digital library is best suited for students in Kindergarten - Grade Two. However, it is a useful tool for students in the older grades who need additional practice sounding out words. Decodable books encourage students to decode unknown words, rather than looking at the pictures and guessing. They are organized by letter-sound relationships. This allows students to practice the graphemes they have been working on in class.

If you have any questions about how you can use decodable books at home, please reach out to your child's teacher. Happy reading!

Safety at Chris Akkerman

As winter weather arrives, so to does winter driving around the school. If you are dropping your child off at school or picking up, we ask that you obey all traffic signs and speed limits. Please do not park in bus parking. Please drive slowly and cautiously around the school. Please leave plenty of distance between yourself and others. Be extra cautious around the crosswalks.

Drop offs – dod you know, parents can drop off students in the alley around the fields of the school. Even safer is when families drive clock wise in the alley as children can exit the car right next to the field and enter the school grounds safely. Please consider leaving a bit early and finding a suitable location to drop your child off. You may NOT use the bus parking to drop off students. It is both illegal and unsafe to drop your child off in the middle of the road and have them run across the road. It is also unsafe and illegal to jaywalk where there is no crosswalk. Please, keep our amazing students safe by taking extra time and following signage and driving laws when dropping children off.

Your care and consideration is gratefully appreciated.

School Council

We met yesterday evening on-line. It was another great turn-out with about 30 families joining us. Thank you for joining and thank you for participating in the conversation and problem-solving. We discussed traffic and road safety around the school. We also discussed how we would spend the casino money this year. These topics will be re-visited at our next meeting. We are hopeful even more families will lend their wisdom and suggestions by joining our next meeting. All CAS families are welcome to attend. The next School Council meeting will be at the end of January.
