Weekly Message December 9, 2024 Important Dates:
(Formal Day for all students)
December Assembly – Parents are welcome! Grade 2’s will be our first grade to put on an assembly following our new model. Grade 2 assembly is Dec. 10. Family of students in Grade 2 may attend the assembly on Tuesday Dec 10. Following the assembly, the grade 2 parents will be invited back to the classroom to celebrate all of the learning students have been participating in this fall. When you are finished with your celebration of learning, then you can take your child home. If you have siblings in the building, please make a plan at the end of the day to meet them outside so you can leave together. We will not be pulling siblings out of class early. Family Homework Is your child dressed for the weather? Can your child put on their winter clothing? Have you watched your child get their boots, snowpants, coats, hat, and mitts on independent of your assistance? How long does this take them? Can they, do it? Please consider practicing this with your child. Many are struggling with the “order of operations” of this task. Putting on mitts first and then trying to zip a coat can be problematic. Have you taught them what order they should put their winter clothing on? Also – dollar store gloves will not keep your child’s tiny fingers warm. All children should wear mitts thicker than the thin mitts from the dollar store. Please label all your winter clothing – thank you Healthy Hunger: to order Fun Lunch Communication When you have specific questions about your child, your first point of contact is always the classroom teacher. Please email the teacher to book a time to talk. Teachers are not available to talk during school hours as they are teaching. Safety around the School Please remember to park on the street and watch for pedestrians crossing and buses loading or unloading students every day. We need your help to keep our alley and school parking lots free from vehicles so that everyone can have a safe experience at school. Please refrain from “j-walking” as this is illegal and unsafe. Uniforms Students need to wear their formal uniforms on Mondays, school assemblies, field trips and special events. Remember to wear your formal uniforms to our Parent Teacher interviews coming up on November 28th and 29th. Always have students' names clearly labeled in uniform clothing to keep things well organized at school. That way, they can more easily keep track of items at school. Please stop by our Lost and Found at school during student conferences as there are many items that need to be claimed by families. Healthy Families Wash your hands regularly to Prevent and Stop Colds After contact with a dirty surface, people should wash their hands. If there is a sink available, wash with water and soap making sure to lather for at least 20 seconds and dry the hands fully. You can also use an alcohol-based hand rub, consisting of between 62 per cent and 70 per cent ethanol, as long as the hands stay wet for at least 15 seconds. When executed properly, a combination of handwashing and disinfection will help to prevent the unnecessary spread of flu and allow for a quicker return to normal. Cold Weather Message from Office:
Report Cards: January 2025 and Understanding Teacher Feedback
When your child receives feedback from a teacher, it is important to celebrate the good and ask what steps they can take to improve. Research shows that when families recognize strengths, student achievement improves. A 1 means a beginning understanding of a concept. A 2 means a basic level of understanding. A 3 is a strong understanding of grade level curriculum. A 4 is an excellent understanding of learning and shows that a student can apply their learning across different settings. Please see the attachment above for the CBE parent information about report card indicators. The document is titled “Parent’s Guide to Assessment and Reporting”. Rocks and Rings Curling Residency Our Curling residency provided by Rocks and Rings was a huge success! Thank you again to our School Council for covering the costs of the residency. We will have the curling equipment rented for one more week and your children will continue to practice their newly acquired skills during classroom instructional time. Please see Google Classroom as many teachers have posted photos of their classes this week. |
