Thank you to all of our amazing families for sending your children dressed for the weather and prepared to make the mad dash at the end of the day to either the bus or a warm car waiting on a side street. We appreciate your efforts to keep your children warm! As the weather warms (just enough to make it warmer than –20) all CAS students will be heading outside for morning recess and lunch recess. Students need to have snow pants, a winter coat, mitts, boots and a hat.

School Council

School Council will meet this Wednesday as our TLC Open House occurs on Thursday. Our meeting will be on-line starting at 6PM.

There are still a few vacant roles on our School Council. If you are interested in volunteering your time in one of the School Council roles, please let us know. You will be fully supported in your effort and you will be very valued by both our teaches, students, community and School Council team!

We will be discussing the “wish-lists” put forward by our grade teams and specialist teachers for purchases for our students.

We are also hopeful to introduce a few questions for families to ponder for our upcoming meeting. These questions are around residencies and field trips. How much money should we expect families to pay for "in school" and "out of school" field trips and residencies? What types of activities would you like to see your children doing here at CAS. We will look for specific feedback at our February meeting.

Your feedback and input is very valuable. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.

News from the Office

- Forms for Grade one vaccinations have gone home, please review and sign these over the weekend and return to the school Monday January 22, 2024

- Parents as winter conditions continue, please check your bus applications daily in the mornings and afternoons for disruptions or delays. Also please do not call the office for updates. As soon as the office is given information we share it via school messenger/ e-mail. Your calls are putting un-due pressure on the office and sadly our team are unable to assist you. The most up to date information is found on your my school bus APP. Please look to this APP to keep you informed.

- Please ensure we have the most up-to-date contact information for you at the office and that your voicemail is activated on your cell phone. We still struggle to get a hold of some parents in emergent situations. When your child is unwell, or Southland has canceled a bus, or your child is injured on the playground – we want to connect with parents as soon as possible. When you do not have an updated and accurate phone number and e-mail on file it makes connecting with you difficult. Please update your information with the office.

 - Please pay your overdue field trip fees and lunchroom supervision fees. If you are having trouble paying through your MyCBE account, you can always come to the office and pay. We ONLY take debit or credit card payments.

Family Literacy Day

Family Literacy Day is coming up on Saturday, January 27! The goal is to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. Spend some time playing word games, going to the library,  reading a book or even writing a letter to grandma or making a shopping list together. Creating a literacy-rich environment at home helps to develop a love of reading in children. Happy Family Literacy Day!
