A message from school council

Healthy Hunger – Every month CAS students have the opportunity to order lunch from Healthy Hunger. Did you know, when you order from Healthy Hunger, you are also supporting CAS as a small portion of every meal generates a contribution of funds to our school council. These funds help to support School Council initiatives in the school. For example, School Council has agreed to cover the cost of a bus for every single class in the school. This will make fieldtrips more affordable for all of our families.

Please remember to order lunch for your child each month from Healthy Hunger

CAS Parent Engagement – We value your feedback!

We know we make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together. That’s why we’ll be sharing information about school planning and asking you to share your perspectives.

During this engagement, you will have the opportunity to:

1. Learn About

·       School planning, which includes the school development plan, school budget and school fees

·       How the school development plan sets the overall focus and direction for a school to improve student learning outcomes

·       How the school budget provides funding to implement our school development plan

·       School fees and why they are necessary

Chris Akkerman - School Planning Engagement PPT - 2024.pdf  – Please look at this PPT presentation for more information about CAS, the School Development Plan, our Budget, the Fees we charge, and where parents get to participate and get involved.

2. Participate

·       Share your perspectives through an online Engagement Survey open from March 7 to March 23. Watch this short video to learn about the planning work schools do to improve and support student learning.

·       Please take the time to provide us with your thoughts and ideas on the survey.

Ramadan

If your family observes Ramadan and your child (under the supervision and guidance of a parent) chooses to also observe the fasting piece related to Ramadan – We want to support your child as best we can.

If your child is fasting over the next many weeks, please communicate with your child’s classroom teacher to let them know your expectations. When we work in partnership we are always much more successful. Please reach out to your child’s teacher to let them know what you and your child have decided their observance of Ramadan and fasting while at school will look like. Thank you!

Technology at Home

Overall, technology is a powerful tool that has transformed society and provided numerous benefits. However, its use should be balanced and mindful of its potential drawbacks to ensure that it serves as a force for good. Striking the right balance between the benefits and drawbacks is crucial to harness technology's potential while minimizing its negative impact. Here are some things to consider when deciding how technology is used in your family environment:

·       Access to information – parents need to filter the information children are receiving and decide if that aligns with their values and expectations

·       Communication – makes it easier to connect with school and friends. Balance time spent on technology with face-to-face opportunities for children to play together

·       Encourages Creativity and tools for sharing ideas differently - remember to balance sitting and physical activity

·       Security and privacy concerns - protect passwords and access to private information
