Upstanders Showcase

This past week, select classes of students proudly welcomed families, classmates, and staff into their learning spaces to experience their incredible Upstanders Projects.

We are so proud to share that our Grade 4 students hosted an inspiring and impactful Upstanders Showcase. Throughout this project, students explored what it means to be an “upstander” — someone who stands up for others, leads with kindness, and contributes to a positive and inclusive community.

During the showcase, students confidently shared their learning through creative displays, thoughtful presentations, and meaningful conversations. They engaged audiences of all ages—both younger students and adults—with confidence and purpose. It was clear that they developed a deep understanding of empathy, respect, and the importance of taking action to make a difference.

We were truly impressed by their enthusiasm, growth, and commitment to creating a caring school environment. Our Grade 4 students demonstrated leadership in action and served as powerful role models for our entire community.

A special thank you to our Upstander teachers for their guidance, care, and dedication in bringing this meaningful learning experience to life, and to our families for their ongoing support.

We are excited that several of our current Grade 4 students will join us in the fall at our Welcome Back Assembly, as Grade 5 leaders to share this important work and help set a positive tone for the year ahead. You can also look forward to seeing this focus continue as part of our ongoing commitment to building a kind, inclusive school community

Volunteer Picnic & Music Monday Update

We are excited to share that our school-wide Volunteer Appreciation Picnic and Music Monday celebration is quickly approaching! This special event is scheduled for Monday, June 19, and we are looking forward to celebrating together.

Invitations for the Volunteer Picnic have already been sent electronically. If you have not yet done so, please RSVP to the classroom and teacher you will be joining.  Each class has prepared a small token of appreciation, which you will receive when you join them for the picnic.

As we plan this large school-wide event, weather remains an important consideration. Our hope is to host the picnic and performances outdoors, as this allows us to best accommodate everyone and create a relaxed, celebratory atmosphere. However, we are mindful that the long-range forecast is uncertain, and as we all know, Calgary weather can change quickly.

To help you understand our decision-making process:

  • If the weather is poor on Monday but shows clear improvement for Tuesday, we will postpone to Tuesday, June 20.
  • If poor weather is expected on both days, we will proceed on Monday indoors.

While an indoor version is not ideal, we are committed to making the experience as enjoyable and meaningful as possible. We will do our very best to accommodate everyone in the gym. A key part of our volunteer appreciation is providing front-row seating for Music Monday, and this will remain a priority whether we are outside or inside.

We deeply appreciate the time, care, and support our volunteers provide to our school community. Your flexibility and understanding—especially if weather requires us to adjust plans—means a great deal to us.

Please stay tuned for updates as we get closer to the date. We truly look forward to spending this special time together

Sports Day – June 19

We are excited for our upcoming Sports Day on June 19! This is a rain-or-shine event, so please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.

Students should bring a water bottle clearly labelled with their name. Water bottles will be kept in a designated class area throughout the day. As many of us know from experience, unlabeled bottles can easily be misplaced — so please be sure names are clearly marked!

At the end of the day, students will enjoy a freezie treat, generously provided by our School Council, before dismissal.

If you are volunteering with your child’s class and would like to take your child home directly following the day’s activities, please inform your child’s teacher in advance, as the day will be busy and full of transitions.

Sports Day is meant to be a celebration of fun, participation, and community. Students will rotate through a variety of outdoor activity stations, often in mixed-age groups or with friends from other classes. This is all part of the experience! We encourage all students to get involved, try new activities, and most importantly, have fun.

Thank you for helping us make this a positive and memorable day for everyone. 

Rainy Weather Reminder

With the recent rainy weather, we kindly ask that you ensure your child comes to school dressed appropriately for the conditions. This includes a rain jacket and, if needed, a rain hat to help keep them comfortable throughout the day.

We ask that students not bring umbrellas to school. While well-intended, umbrellas can easily break in Calgary’s wind and can sometimes lead to accidental injuries during play.

At our school, we believe in the importance of outdoor time, even in cooler or wet weather. Students are expected to go outside for recess, and with proper clothing, they are able to do so comfortably. Of course, in cases of severe weather—such as heavy rain or hail—we will always keep students safely indoors.

Thank you for your understanding and support in helping your child be prepared for all types of weather. 

Lost and Found: Reminder

Our Lost and Found is currently full. We kindly ask that you remind your child to check for any missing items.

Please note that any items not picked up and not clearly labelled with a student’s name will be donated.

Transportation Registration - is now open!

Please ensure you register all of your children for the bus. When you register for the bus, you are increasing your chances of ensuring a bus stop is closer to your home. For those of you in new communities, it is especially important that you register early. This ensures that all of the children in your community have an opportunity to have a bus stop closer by than 2-3 communities over. Please register for the bus.  Registering for the bus in September means that you will be added to a bus stop that already exists. Routs are formed by then and all that can happen as you will be told where the closest stop is. It is important to register early!
