On June 4, our school community came together to celebrate an inspiring showcase of student learning centered on the power of being an upstander. Led by our Grade 4 team—Maham Manzar, Sarah Grant, Ryan Peniuk, and Melissa Roop—students engaged deeply in an Upstander Unit, exploring how they can make a positive difference in their school and beyond.

As part of this meaningful learning experience, Grade 4 students worked collaboratively with their teachers to create thoughtful and creative presentations highlighting what it means to stand up for others, show empathy, and take action. These projects were proudly shared during a vibrant showcase in our school gym.

Throughout the day, classes had the opportunity to visit the gym and learn from one another’s presentations, fostering a strong sense of connection and shared responsibility. In the afternoon, parents and families were invited to attend, and it was wonderful to see our community come together to celebrate the students’ hard work, insight, and leadership.

This event was a powerful reminder that even our youngest learners can lead with courage, kindness, and integrity. We are incredibly proud of our Grade 4 students for their commitment to making Chris Akkerman a place where everyone feels safe, valued, and supported.
