Parent-Teacher Conferences
Kindergarten families can book conferences Wednesday and Thursday afternoon – during school hours.
Kindergarten – Grade 5 can book conferences Thursday after school through to the evening 7:30. There is also an opportunity for on-line conferences for Kindergarten – Grade 5 families on Friday morning. There are NO face to face conferences on Friday.
Our book fair will be running Wednesday and Thursday afternoon in the learning commons and then Thursday evening in the gym.
Kindergarten families, if you are booking a conference with your child on Wednesday or Thursday afternoon, please plan to bring your child home with you after your conference is complete.
All families should bring their children with them to the parent teacher conference. All students should be in their formal uniform for face to face conferences.
Inline Skating Residency
We have begun our Inline Skating Residency, by Alien Inline Skating. They are a full-service provider and have skates, protective gear and trained teachers, working directly with the students. They do have helmets for students to wear. However, if your child has their own bike or hockey helmet at home, they are free to bring it (clearly labeled with their name) and can use that during the residency. If your child wears a turban, we encourage you to bring a helmet from home, if you have one that fits properly. If not, Alien Inline has some helmets suitable for students who wear turbans. We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable experience.
From the Office
We need volunteers for our Book Fair!
Please consider signing up to volunteer at the bookfair, especially on Wednesday afternoon, Thursday afternoon and evening!
During the week of November 20 - 24 our Library Assistant Ms. Michaud will be running our Book Fair. In order for this event to be a success we need many volunteers. To volunteer on Wednesday/ Thursday afternoon you MUST have CBE volunteer clearance completed and have filled out your Orange Volunteer form for the 2023-2024 School year. Volunteers on Thursday after school and evening do NOT need volunteer clearance as all
We need Volunteers for each of these shifts:
- Mon - Thursday 8:15 am – 12:00pm 1-2 Volunteers needed per day
- Mon - Thursday 12:10 pm – 2:20 pm 1-2 Volunteers needed per day
- Thursday Evening 3:00 pm – 7:30 pm 5 Volunteers needed
Please e-mail chrisakkerman@cbe.ab.ca with the title bookfair on your email and we will start booking you in when we return from fall break.
Transportation and Student Drop Off
All families who drop their children off at school, please follow all parking signs and traffic laws. Please do not “jay walk” or make a “U” turn in the middle of the street. Kindly think of student safety at all times when you are driving and parking around Chris Akkerman School.
There is a very visible crosswalk right beside the school that is best to use. Please also make time to find a legal parking/ stopping location to drop your children off in the morning.
We have a large bus area at the front of the school because we have 10 buses and 2 city transit buses that use that space from 7:35 – 8AM When you stop to drop children off in this space or you park by the mailboxes (where the signs indicate it is a no parking zone) you make it difficult for our buses to drop off students.
Please consider the safety and well-being of all Chris Akkerman Students by driving safely and parking in designated areas. Thank you!
