Report Cards

Report cards will be available starting Tuesday morning. Our teachers have worked very hard to communicate meaningful information about your child’s learning. The indicators and comments you will see are aligned with what has already been shared in PowerSchool throughout the term. Teachers have been uploading evidence and documentation all term, and you are welcome to check PowerSchool at any time.

Attached is an important PDF from the CBE explaining the report card indicators. If you have any questions about your child’s report card, please contact your homeroom teacher directly — they are the best person to support you.

Attendance

A quick reminder about how attendance is recorded:

  • Monday–Thursday count as two attendance periods:
    Morning and afternoon.
  • Friday counts as one attendance period.

When you see higher numbers for absences or lates, this is why — there are 180 school days, but attendance is taken twice per day on Monday–Thursday.

Student-Led Conferences will take place in April, and we look forward to welcoming all families to see your child’s growth and learning firsthand.

School Council

Our next School Council Meeting will be held on March 12 – beginning at 5:30 sharpe, just before the presentation by Samira, the psychologist. We hope you will consider joining us — we will be sharing an important update on our School Development Plan, our school budget, and the fees families pay.

School Council will also be making decisions about how to use the $500 purchase card to engage with CAS families this spring, and we will share updates about the Casino and our next steps.

Parent Workshop with Samira Zabian, Registered Psychologist – March 12 – 6:30–7:30 PM

Lottery 2026

On Wednesday, February 11, the CAS School Administration, together with members of our School Council Executive — Melissa, our Vice Chair, and Maninder, our Secretary — completed this year’s lottery process. All applicants from Kindergarten to Grade 5 were entered into the lottery and assigned numbers according to CBE guidelines.

Over the following days, Ms. Shilpa sent out acceptance letters and waitlist notifications. Our lottery is conducted strictly in accordance with the expectations and procedures established by the Calgary Board of Education.

We understand that in many grades, the number of applicants greatly exceeds the number of available spaces. As a result, it is not possible to accommodate all families who apply. At this time of year, we receive a very high volume of inquiries from families who either missed the application deadline or did not receive the outcome they hoped for. Due to the volume, we are not able to respond individually to each inquiry.

We appreciate your understanding and patience. Our office is extremely busy during this period, and it is essential that we continue to follow the CBE’s established lottery rules to ensure fairness and consistency for all applicants. There will be no deviations from the required process.

Thank you in advance for respecting these guidelines.

Welcome to Our Practicum Students

We are pleased to welcome our practicum students back into the building:

  • Mr. Elesar Ngetab  (Teaching Practicum Student) will continue working with the Grade 5 team, spending most of his time in Ms. Pereira’s class.
  • Mr. Sixto Szetoand Ms. Swathi Sebastian (Social Work Practicum Students) will begin meeting with small student groups throughout the week starting Tuesday. The groups this term will include:
    • Friendship Club
    • Peace and Paws (emotional identification and self-regulation)

If your child is selected to participate, your classroom teacher will contact you directly.

Swathi and Sixto will also prepare a presentation on ADHD to help demystify the diagnosis, reduce stigma, and share practical strategies for families and teachers. The presentation will include interactive, research-based links. We will notify families once it is posted on our website.

Dressing for the Weather

The cold weather has returned. Please ensure your child comes to school with a warm coat, hat, and gloves (not thin $1 gloves — they do not provide enough warmth in very cold temperatures). Students must be appropriately dressed before boarding buses or leaving the school.

We go outside twice each day when the temperature is warmer than –20°C, so proper clothing is essential. Thank you for helping keep our students warm and safe.

Water Restrictions Returning

Water restrictions are returning. The CBE is working hard to stay compliant, and we ask families to begin preparing children to be mindful of water use at home and at school. Water is a precious resource, and we all play a part in conserving it.

Teachers will be reinforcing good water‑saving habits as well.

Grade 4 Provincial Survey

Grade 4 families should have received a survey link and unique access code from the Provincial Government about two weeks ago. This survey helps us better understand how families feel about educational quality, school culture, safety, and academic expectations.

If you haven’t completed it yet, please do so as soon as possible. The survey remains open for about another week. All Grade 4 students will complete their portion this coming week. Staff at CAS have already completed theirs.

Thank you for your participation.

Safety Around the School

A gentle reminder for all families:

  • Please do not use the staff parking lot as a drop‑off location. It is not safe for students.
  • Bus zones are for buses only. Our buses transport approximately 50 students per run and require dedicated, safe space to load and unload.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping keep all students safe.
