We are hopeful all families will fill in a police clearance so you can volunteer with our students.
There are several opportunities to contribute, whether it is assisting with school activities, helping in the classroom, or participating in upcoming events. Every bit of help goes a long way towards enriching the experience for our children.

Student Absence, late, and early departure
Please continue your magnificent work leaving messages on attendance line for any student absence. Please mention your child’s first name, last name, grade, teacher's name, and reason for absence.
If you are picking up your child early, please leave a message before 1:30 pm with your child's first name, last name, grade, and teacher's name, pick up time and reason for leaving.
If you are going on an extended absence, please call the school so we can make arrangements for you to meet with Mr Murray and fill in the paperwork.
Healthy Families
Make sure you take time together to eat healthy food, relax and get some fresh air, as the seasons change. We know that exercise, rest, and good nutrition helps students build the conditions to achieve academic excellence.
If your children are unwell, please keep them at home. This helps keep our community safe and ensures that our entire school community is healthy at school. As of late we have had many students and staff away with illness. Thank you for making good choices about when your child is unwell and shouldn't be at school.

Surveillance at Chris Akkerman
The CBE will be updating our current camera system (only at the front door) and it will soon be slightly more integrated and provide better safety monitoring of our students. This will mainly be at the front and back doors. This was discussed, as part of the required steps for roll-out, with school council at our last meeting.
Parents are not permitted to request video footage of their children, nor will families be provided access to view recordings or receive documentation of what is captured on video. In the past, when we have communicated about altercations or fights at school, some families have asked for video evidence to confirm their child’s involvement. To date, our system has never provided such footage, and moving forward, this will not change. It is highly unlikely that cameras will capture these incidents, as their placement is not extensive and students typically choose locations out of immediate eye sight when an altercation occurs.
Altercations among our students are very rare. The purpose of the camera upgrade is to enhance security by monitoring for vandalism, break-ins, theft, and safe entry into the building. Signage will be posted, and the community will be notified when installation occurs.
Please know that strict privacy protocols are followed to ensure compliance with CBE regulations. Further details can be found in the CBE Administrative Regulation https://www.cbe.ab.ca/GovernancePolicies/AR1066.pdf. If you have questions, concerns, or feedback, please email Dr. Bettesworth so your comments can be recorded and shared with the CBE.
