Happy Thanksgiving, CAS Families!
As we approach the Thanksgiving long weekend, I find myself reflecting on the many people who make Chris Akkerman School such a special place to learn, grow, and belong.
First and foremost, I am thankful for our parents and families. Every morning, you send your children to school ready to learn. That is no small task. Behind every successful school day are the routines, care, and commitment that happen at home: ensuring children get enough sleep, providing nutritious meals, making sure uniforms and supplies are ready, and most importantly, nurturing the kindness, respect, and generosity that help create a positive learning community. Thank you for your partnership and for entrusting us with your children each day.
I am deeply grateful for our teachers. They work tirelessly to ensure every child is seen, supported, challenged, and cared for. Through their expertise, creativity, and dedication, they continuously adapt their teaching to meet the diverse needs of our students, helping each child learn, grow, and thrive.
I am thankful for our incredible Education Assistants and School Assistants. They are often the caring adults who notice when a student needs a little extra support, whether that means a regulation break, assistance with a challenging assignment, added reading or writing practice, encouragement to persevere, or simply a reassuring presence nearby. Their impact on student success is immeasurable.
Our Lunchroom Supervisors deserve special recognition as well. They help keep our students safe, supported, and cared for during the busy lunch hour and on the playground. They encourage healthy eating habits, foster positive social interactions, and provide the kind of warmth and attentiveness that often feels like having another caring family member at school.
I am especially grateful for Ms. Baljit, who works diligently behind the scenes to ensure our building is clean, welcoming, and safe. Her care and attention create an environment where students and staff can focus on learning and working in comfort and security.
And, of course, I am thankful for our exceptional office team: Mr. Murray, Ms. Shilpa, Ms. Naz, and Ms. Jayati. They are the heart of our school's daily operations. From managing attendance, transportation, fees, and countless day-to-day needs, to welcoming students, staff, and families with kindness, compassion, and understanding, they help ensure that everything runs smoothly.
Most importantly, I am thankful for our students. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, laughter, resilience, and kindness bring our school to life each day. They remind us why we do this work and inspire us to be our best selves.
Chris Akkerman School is a truly remarkable place because of the people who make up our community. Together, families, students, staff, and community members create an environment where everyone is valued, supported, and encouraged to flourish.
As we celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you have an opportunity to spend time with family and friends, enjoy moments of rest and reflection, and appreciate the many blessings in your own lives.
Thank you for all you do to make Chris Akkerman School such an extraordinary community.
Happy Thanksgiving to all our CAS families!
We hope you enjoy a wonderful long weekend filled with gratitude, laughter, meaningful moments, and time together. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school Tuesday refreshed and ready for another great week of learning.

Fun Lunch Days – A Gentle Reminder About Outside Food
We are so grateful for the support you give our school community. On Fun Lunch days, we kindly ask that families do not send outside food from restaurants or vendors.
Our Fun Lunches are organized by our dedicated School Council volunteers as a fundraising effort to support programs and activities for all students. When outside lunches arrive from other vendors, it creates challenges for our office team and makes the Fun Lunch process more complicated to manage.
To help the day run smoothly for everyone, we ask that families participate in Fun Lunch through the School Council ordering system on those designated days.
If you have ideas about vendors, menu options, or the overall process, School Council would love to hear from you. They welcome more families getting involved and helping to shape future Fun Lunches.
Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and continued partnership. Together, we make these special days successful for our whole community.
Reminder: Student Drop-Off and Morning Supervision
For the safety of all students, please remember that school supervision begins at 7:35 a.m. Students should not be dropped off before this time.
When arriving at school, please do not leave your child unattended unless you can see school supervisors outside. If supervisors are not yet present, please remain with your child until supervision begins.
Thank you for helping us ensure a safe and smooth start to each school day.
Cricket Residency Scores Big at Chris Akkerman!
Over the week, our students have enjoyed an exciting Cricket Residency led by two outstanding instructors. Students learned new skills, practiced teamwork, and discovered the fun of one of the world's most popular sports.
Today, students wrapped up the residency by putting their learning into action during friendly cricket games on our school grounds. The enthusiasm was incredible, and many students have expressed an interest in continuing to play. We encourage families to explore local cricket programs if their child would like to keep developing their skills and enjoy this exciting sport outside of school.
A big thank you to our instructors for creating such a memorable experience for our students!
