Meet the Teacher Evening: Thank You for Joining Us!

Thank you to all of our families who attended our Meet the Teacher Evening this past Thursday. We were absolutely delighted to see so many students, parents, and caregivers come through our doors to help us kick off another wonderful school year.

It was wonderful to see families enjoying the food trucks that joined us for the evening. Despite the chilly weather, there was no shortage of smiles! I particularly enjoyed the burgers, and I noticed many students and staff happily sipping lemonade while they explored the school and connected with one another.

I would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to our bottle drive fundraiser. The response from our community was incredible. By the end of the evening, the truck was completely full! Every bottle truly does count, and your support helps us raise valuable funds that directly benefit our students. This was such a successful initiative that we will be hosting another bottle drive during Parent-Teacher Interviews. If you have the space, please consider saving your bottles and cans for our next collection.

One of the greatest joys of the evening was watching students proudly guide their families through the school. We love seeing children take ownership of their learning spaces, introducing their teachers, and confidently leading tours of the building. Even our youngest learners rose to the occasion, proving just how capable and independent they can be when given the opportunity.

The goals of Meet the Teacher Night are simple but important: to ensure that every student and family knows their teacher, can easily find their classroom, feels a sense of pride in being part of our school community, and has opportunities to build relationships with our staff. It was especially wonderful to see so many students wearing their school uniforms with pride and showing off their learning environment to the important people in their lives.

Thank you for attending and participating in our very first community event of the school year. Your presence, support, and engagement help make our school the welcoming and connected place that it is. We are grateful for the strong partnership we share with our families and look forward to many more opportunities to learn, celebrate, and grow together throughout the year.

Requests for Medical Accommodations and Activity Modifications

In some cases, families may request accommodations or modifications to regular school programming due to a medical condition, allergy, or health concern. To ensure that accommodations are appropriate, safe, and based on medical need, the school may require documentation from a licensed physician or specialist.

Examples of accommodation we typically receive include:

  • Remaining indoors during recess due to cold weather.
  • Remaining indoors due to grass, dust, environmental, or seasonal allergies.
  • Modifications to outdoor activities.
  • Changes to physical education participation.
  • Alternative supervision arrangements during recess or lunch breaks.
  • Any accommodation that significantly alters a student's participation in regular school programming.

If a requested accommodation extends beyond typical school-based supports, parents/guardians must provide a physician's or specialist's note outlining:

  • The diagnosed medical condition.
  • The specific medical concern.
  • The accommodation required.
  • Any restrictions that apply to the student.
  • The duration of the accommodation, if applicable.

For many common allergies or sensitivities, accommodations can often be provided without significantly altering a student's daily routine. For example:

  • A student with a peanut allergy may require a designated peanut-aware eating space.
  • A student with dust or environmental allergies may wear a mask when conditions warrant.
  • A student may require prescribed medication, such as an antihistamine, as outlined in their medical plan.

However, requests that require a student to be removed from regular school programming, such as remaining indoors during recess or lunch breaks, generally require medical documentation from a physician or specialist indicating that such an accommodation is medically necessary.

As a school, we are typically unable to provide routine indoor supervision during recesses solely based on parent preference regarding weather conditions, grass exposure, dust, or similar environmental factors. Our expectation is that students participate in regular outdoor activities unless medical documentation indicates otherwise.

Parents and guardians are always welcome to make arrangements to join their child during lunch recess in the office area if they believe this is in their child's best interest and no medical documentation has been provided requiring school-based accommodations.

As with all health-related matters, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to provide complete, accurate, and current medical documentation and to communicate any changes in writing to the school. School staff rely on the information provided by families and medical professionals when determining how best to support student health and safety.

Thank you for your understanding and for partnering with us to ensure that accommodations are safe, appropriate, and supportive of student success while maintaining regular school programming for all learners.

Supporting Students with Medical Needs at School

The safety and well-being of our students is a shared responsibility between home and school. As a school, we work closely with families to support students with medical needs; however, parents and guardians are responsible for ensuring that all health information, medications, and instructions provided to the school are accurate, complete, and up to date at all times.

To help us keep your child safe, please ensure that you:

Notify the School of Medical Needs

  • Inform the school of any medical condition, allergy, diagnosis, or medication requirement at the time of registration, at the beginning of each school year, and whenever there is any change to your child's health needs.
  • Provide updated information immediately if your child's medical condition, treatment plan, medication, dosage, or emergency procedures change.

Complete Required Medical Documentation   (all plans were sent out in the weekly message last week and are available on the CBE website)

  • Work with the Assistant Principal to develop a Student Health Plan and Emergency Response Plan, when required.
  • Parents/guardians are responsible for completing all forms thoroughly and accurately.
  • Forms that contain incomplete information, blank sections, "N/A" responses where additional information is required, or crossed-out sections may be returned to families for completion before the school can implement the plan.
  • Any changes to a student's medical plan must be provided to the school in writing before the changes take effect.

Provide Medication Correctly

  • Whenever possible, medication should be administered at home.
  • All medication sent to school must:
    • Be provided by the parent/guardian.
    • Be in the original pharmacy container.
    • Be clearly labeled with the student's full name.
    • Include the medication name, dosage, administration instructions, and frequency.
    • Have a current, unexpired expiry date.
  • The school cannot administer medication that is expired, improperly labeled, missing instructions, or inconsistent with the information provided on the student's medical forms.
  • It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to replace medication before it expires.

Responsibility for Medication Schedules

  • Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring the school has complete and accurate written instructions regarding when medication is to be administered.
  • If medication must be taken at a specific time during the school day, parents and guardians must ensure that the school has received all necessary written directions and documentation in advance.
  • While school staff will make reasonable efforts to support students according to their approved medical plans, teachers' primary responsibility is instruction. Families should not assume that school staff will independently monitor or remember medication schedules that have not been clearly documented and communicated.
  • Students who are developmentally able should also understand their medication schedule and participate in managing their health needs as appropriate.

Provide Required Medical Supplies

  • Supply any required medical equipment or emergency medication, including but not limited to EpiPens, inhalers, glucose monitoring devices, or other prescribed medical supplies.
  • Ensure all supplies are clearly labeled and in working condition.

Keep Information Current

  • Provide a current photograph of your child if requested for medical planning purposes.
  • Maintain current parent/guardian contact numbers and emergency contact information throughout the school year.
  • Notify the school immediately of any changes to contact information.

Respond to School Communication

  • Respond promptly to requests for information regarding your child's medical needs.
  • Be available to discuss concerns, provide clarification, or pick up your child when necessary.

Staff Responsibilities:

Emergency medications are administered according to the student's health plan without waiting for parent approval at the time of the incident. Non-emergency medications are administered only when a current Student Health Plan and medication authorization are on file and parents have consented to staff administering the medication until student's can self-administer.

  1. Emergency medications (EpiPen, prescribed rescue inhalers, seizure rescue medication). We will follow the student's health plan and administer as trained, and call 911 in emergencies. We will not delay treatment while trying to reach a parent in these circumstances.
  2. Non-emergency medications (e.g., Claritin for mild dust allergy symptoms). Office staff and administration will only administer if: the medication is included in the student's authorized health plan/medication form; medication is supplied and properly labelled; staff have been designated to administer it.
  3. If there is no current health plan or medication authorization on file, we will not administer the medication. Instead, we will contact the parent and ask them to come to school to administer medication.

Important Reminder

Our school does not have a nurse, physician, or other medical professional on staff. School staff rely entirely on the information, documentation, and instructions provided by parents/guardians and medical professionals. For this reason, it is essential that all health information, medical documentation, medication, and instructions are complete, accurate, current, and communicated to the school in writing. Incomplete or inaccurate information may limit the school's ability to safely support your child's medical needs.

Thank you for partnering with us to ensure the health, safety, and success of every student.

Fun Lunch 2026-2027

We are excited to continue offering Fun Lunches throughout the school year! Fun Lunches provide students with a special lunch option while also supporting our school community and fundraising initiatives.  Kindly DO NOT send in lunch from other fast food vendors on fun lunch days. This deeply saddens our school council who have put in place great opportunities for your children to participate in a school supported activity.

Kinder parents - Please be careful of the date you order your fun lunches. Food ordered on the wrong date will not be saved for your child. We simply do not have the space or the staff to make these accommodations.

All Fun Lunch orders are placed through Healthy Hunger, our online ordering system. Families can create an account, place orders, and manage payments by visiting www.healthyhunger.ca.

We are grateful for the volunteers who help make Fun Lunch days possible. These events cannot run successfully without the support of our parent community. Throughout the year, the school will continue to seek volunteers to assist with organizing, sorting, and distributing lunches. If you are interested in helping, please connect with School Council. Whether you can volunteer occasionally or regularly, your support is greatly appreciated and directly contributes to a positive experience for our students.

Uniforms

Formal Day is always on Monday

Tuesday are formal day for Tuesday-Thursday Kinder Students

Students may wear their Chris The Cub t-Shirts on Friday with their uniform bottoms.

Beginning immediately - students will be calling home when they are not wearing their full uniform (Formal/ Casual)

It is a shared responsibility between parents and students to ensure the uniform is being worn.  All families were aware of our uniform expectations in advance of applying to the lottery. It is expected that all students wear their uniform.

Toys/ Trinkets at School

Please do not send school supplies, toys, trinkets, or other personal items to school. We have all of the learning supplies students will need. The only items required are their lunch, water bottle, indoor shoes, and a readiness to learn. If these cherished items do arrive to school we can not guarantee they will come home with the student or be returned to the family. It is best if these items remain at home.
