Orange Shirt Day
Wear your orange shirt on Wednesday this week. Many classes will continue their learning and tasks from last week and our day of reconcilliation. It would be great to show our spirit and support by wearing your orange shirt this Wednesday.
School Council
School Council - was on Thursday last week. THANK YOU to all of the families who took time to join our meeting. It was amazing to see so many families. We had our largest group ever show up to learn about Chris Akkerman School. We are ever hopeful you will get involved, volunteer, and support Chris Akkerman School so we can be even more amazing. With the support and involvement of parents, we are able to do great things at the school. We can't do it without you!
Demographics Forms
We still have about 50 families who have not yet completed their demographic forms. It is very important that you update and approve these forms this year. They can be found in your MyCBE account. Ms Shilpa and Ms Aziza are happy to assist you, please call the office.
Lost and Found
Please ensure everything you send to school that is not firmly attached to your child has a label on it with their name. This includes shoes, jackets, water bottles, lunch kits, backpacks etc. If you value it and want it returned to you, please label it!
Healthy Habits Reminder: Handwashing Matters!
We’re seeing a rise in illness among both students and staff, and one of the simplest ways we can all help keep our community healthy is by reinforcing good handwashing habits. We kindly ask that you take a few extra minutes to review handwashing routines with your child at home. It’s important to wash hands:
- After using the washroom
- Before eating
- After coughing or sneezing
- Anytime hands feel dirty
Please remind your child to use soap, lather for at least 20 seconds, rinse thoroughly, and dry completely. We’ve noticed many students exiting the washroom without washing, and when asked, they often turn right around to do it—so we know they’re willing, they just need the reminder!
Together, we can build strong habits that protect everyone. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school a safe and healthy place to learn and grow. We’re so grateful for the care you show every day!
Transportation Safety Reminder
We are so grateful for the care and connection within our school community—it truly takes a village to keep our students safe.
Here are two important reminders to support our bus riders:
Kindergarten Bus Stop Connections
It’s important that our kindergarten students are familiar with several peers at their bus stop, especially our older students in Grades 4 and 5. When kinders recognize who is getting off the bus with them, it helps ensure they exit at the correct stop. If they don’t see familiar faces, they’re less likely to get off at the wrong location—and if they do, our amazing families and students often notice right away and step in to help. Your watchful eyes and kind hearts make a big difference.
Building Community at the Bus Stop
We encourage all families to take a moment to say hello and get to know one another at the bus stop. If you're ever running late, having a trusted connection means you can call another parent to wait with your child until you arrive. Just let the bus driver know. These small acts of kindness help everyone get home safely and smoothly.
Thank you for being such a caring and connected community. Your support makes our school a truly special place
