Confirmation of Enrollment Intent for the 2025-2026 School Year

As we begin planning for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year, we kindly ask for your assistance in confirming your family’s intentions regarding enrollment at Chris Akkerman School. This information is essential for us to ensure we are fully prepared to meet the needs of our students and provide the best possible learning environment.

Please take a moment to let us know if your child will NOT be returning for the 2025-2026 school year. You can confirm your plans by

 email : Sskawale@cbe.ab.ca/ ChrisAkkerman@cbe.ab.ca

Your timely response is appreciated and will help us with staffing, classroom assignments, and resource planning for the year ahead. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the enrollment process or your plans for the future, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s education. We look forward to another exciting year at Chris Akkerman School!

Cold Weather

We continue to go outside for fresh air and activity until the temperature is –20. Please ensure your child is well-dressed for the weather.  Students must wear warm boots, snow pants, a winter coat (they can zip up), touque, and warm mittens (dollar store gloves are not enough during a Calgary winter) When the weather is cold with a temperature of -20 or colder, we will welcome students into the building.

A note from Ms. Bauman

On Monday, February 3, I am moving to Rosedale School, as their new Assistant Principal.  I want to thank the amazing staff and students at Chris Akkerman School for their wonderful support during the past six years at the school.  We have an amazing school community that is thriving because of close collaboration between leadership, teachers, parents, and students.  You will always be close to my heart and I will miss you all very much!  Learning, changing, and growing are part of life.  I am excited to see all that is ahead for us!  Thank you Dr. Bettesworth for being a wonderful partner in leading the school community. Best wishes to all of you and a warm welcome to Mr. Murray.

School Council Update

Another great turn out for our School Council Meeting this past week. A huge shout out of great appreciation to our School Council Executive who continue to do great work in assisting our school and moving many initiatives forward.

School Council approved the funding for our French Carnival on March 12. All students will enjoy a treat from the Sugar Shack that day (A French Canadian Tradition)

School Council also agreed to the Read-A-Thon fundraiser that will take place the month of April. Stay tuned for more information and details.

If you ordered Chris the Cub clothing, they should be coming home in the next week or so.

We received a Casino update, that after much work and follow-up from Anjul our School Council Chair,  we should anticipate a Casino date in the coming months. We are ever hopeful the Casino date will occur before the end of the school year.  Thank you Anjul for getting CAS back on track with the AGLC and the Casino Fundraiser!  Our School Council is still looking for several parents to lead our efforts with the Casino Fundraiser. If you are interested in joining the casino team, please let us know.
