Hello Chris Akkerman Families!
Spring is here! Spring Break provided an excellent opportunity for both students and staff to relax, recharge, and prepare for the remainder of the academic year. We hope everyone made the most of this time off, whether through travel, hobbies, or spending quality time with family and friends. We look forward to welcoming everyone back, refreshed and ready to continue our educational journey together.
We also hope you had some time to prepare for the remainder of the academic year. Now, more than ever, is the chance to start new routines or confirm already established routines of reading before bed, early bedtimes, a walk after dinner and reduced screen times for all.
Your CAS team is looking forward to welcoming all students back tomorrow. If you are celebrating Eid or observing other cultural or religious events on March 31, please remember to call in to the office to let us know your child will not be attending school for a religious or cultural celebration. We appreciate when you call us in advance of the start of the school day.
Enjoy your celebrations!
We would also like to take an opportunity to welcome Ms Baljit back to CAS. She has been terribly missed by our entire community. On the days leading up to the break, students took time to show their pride in the school and how they have missed Ms Baljit over the last month. There were signs made to welcome her back, chores done around the building such as trash pick-up outside, removal of recycling to the big bin, and sweeping the classroom floors – all in an effort to ensure Ms Baljit knew she was missed. We are so glad she has returned. Students (and parents), please ensure you say a special hello and welcome back to Ms Baljit. Our school is not the same without her! Welcome back Ms Baljit!
Thank you parents - for attending the on-line parent conferences before Spring Break. I also wanted to thank the parents who welcomed me into their conferences. There are great things happening in the parent conferences. Parents, you ask wonderful questions and it is very evident you are keeping up with the information shared on power school/ MyCBE about your child. Conferences are a valuable opportunity for you to learn about your child and how they are doing in school. This is also a chance to learn about your child's next steps in learning and how you can support them. Power school/ MyCBE is also a great way to remain updated on your child's progress. If you were unable to attend the meeting, please consider reaching out to your child's teacher and setting up an appointment with them. The meetings are usually 15 minutes and can be accommodated at the end of the school day.
Student Fees
All parents – please check your MyCBE account for all of you children. If there are outstanding fieldtrip fees, transportation fees or lunch supervision fees, kindly pay these fees. Fees never get removed from your account. When fees are not paid, they remain on your account to be paid the following year. It does cause the school tremendous work though, when your fees are not paid in time as we have to cover these costs until such time as the fees are paid.
No student will be denied an opportunity to participate on a fieldtrip. If you are unable to afford to pay for a fieldtrip, please connect with Ms Shilpa in the office and she can assist you. However, ms Shilpa is unable to provide solutions or assistance after the event or after the fee due date.
Monday – Formal Uniform Day
Let’s make every effort for all students to be in beautiful, clean, well-fitting formal uniforms on Monday. This includes dark socks or tights, ties, cardigans. Please do not send your child to school with a favourite hoodie as they will be asked to remove it. Please ensure your child has a clean white collared shirt on. Uniforms are a sign of pride in our school and in the TLC program. Many families selected TLC because they value the school uniform. Let’s show our pride in the TLC uniform on Monday!
Springtime is Here!
With the arrival of spring, here are a few fun ideas you can enjoy with your family over the course of the next few months!
- Planting a Garden: Start with seedling planting and watch your garden grow. This is a wonderful way to teach children about nature and responsibility.
- Nature Walks: Go on nature walks to observe blooming flowers, new leaves, and birdwatching. It's a great way to appreciate the beauty of the season and get some fresh air.
- Science Experiments: Conduct simple science experiments related to spring changes, such as observing how plants grow or understanding the water cycle.
- Spring-Themed Art Projects: Get creative with spring-themed art projects. Use materials like flowers, leaves, and other natural items to create beautiful artwork.
- Outdoor Games: Play outdoor games like tag, frisbee, and hide-and-seek. These activities are perfect for enjoying the warmer weather and staying active.
- Scavenger Hunt: Organize a scavenger hunt for spring items. This can be a fun and educational way to explore the outdoors.
- Nature Journal: Keep a nature journal and learn about the life cycle of insects or plants. Documenting observations can be a rewarding and educational experience.
We hope everyone has the opportunity to increase their time spent outdoors, connecting with the land around them. Spring is a time of renewal and growth, and we are excited to see our students return with renewed energy and enthusiasm.
Thank you for being a part of our amazing, warm, and supportive school community. Your involvement and dedication to your children make a significant difference in our children's lives.
Friendships
As spring begins, we wanted to share some thoughts on the importance of friendship and how we can support our children in maintaining and growing these vital connections.
Strong Friendships
At CAS, we encourage students to build strong friendships by practicing kindness, listening to others, and resolving conflicts in a respectful way. Each day, we help our kids develop these skills so they can become confident and caring friends. Friendships are essential for their social and emotional development, and we are committed to fostering an environment where these relationships can thrive.
How Parents Can Support Friendships
Friendships don't just grow at school—they flourish in all parts of life! Families play a crucial role in helping children build and maintain meaningful connections. Here are some ways you can support your child in building strong friendships outside of school:
- Arrange Playdates and Group Activities: Encourage your child to spend time with friends outside of school by organizing playdates or group activities. This helps them strengthen their bonds and learn to interact in different settings.
- Model Positive Friendship: Children learn by observing adults. Show them what healthy friendships look like by demonstrating kindness, empathy, and respect in your own relationships.
- Talk About Friendship Skills: Have open conversations with your child about what makes a good friend. Discuss the importance of sharing, listening, and being supportive.
- Support Conflict Resolution: Teach your child how to handle disagreements constructively. Encourage them to express their feelings calmly and find solutions that work for everyone involved.
- Encourage Inclusivity: Help your child understand the value of including others and being open to new friendships. This can broaden their social circle and enrich their experiences.
- Celebrate Friendships: Recognize and celebrate your child's friendships. Acknowledge their efforts in being a good friend and the positive impact these relationships have on their lives.
Friendship is a lifelong skill that helps children grow, learn, and connect with others. By working together, we can ensure our children develop strong, healthy friendships that will benefit them throughout their lives.
Thank you for being a part of our amazing, warm, and supportive school community. Your involvement and dedication make a significant difference in our children's lives.
