French Festival

Thank you, AMAZING volunteers,  Volunteers, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the incredible time, energy, and dedication you gave to this year’s French Festival. Your hard work behind the scenes and during the event helped bring the spirit of French culture to life in our school community.

We know how valuable your time is, and we are truly grateful that you chose to spend it with us—setting up, running stations, helping students, as well as cleaning up at the end of the day. You took pride in making sure every detail was just right. Your smiles, patience, and generosity created a warm and joyful atmosphere for all.

Thanks to your efforts, the festival was more than an event—it was an experience that will be remembered by our students. We simply couldn’t have done it without you.

Merci beaucoup!

School Council

Thursday May 8 at 6PM in the Learning Commons at CAS!  FACE TO FACE!!  😊

Pizza and refreshments will be provided.

We look forward to seeing all of our amazing CAS families at this meeting!

We will be discussing our 2025-2026 Calendar, Transportation, Bell times, Casino, Read-A-Thon and many other great things. Please come and have your voice heard!

My First Ride

If your child will ride the bus for the first time next year, or if you have a kindergarten student who will be with us next school year and riding the bus, please consider signing your child up for my first ride. This is a great opportunity to be on a school bus with your child and learn all about the safety required to ride a bus.   My First Ride

If you are one of the parents who parks in  the bus parking every day – this is a great opportunity for you to attend this presentation and see how huge these Yellow School buses are and how much space they need to navigate the road.  Please check it out!

Kindergarten 2025-2026 and New Student Orientation

We are excited to invite all families with incoming Kindergarten students or new students for the 2025-2026 school year to our New Student Orientation. This event is a wonderful opportunity to get acquainted with our school community.

Event Details

Date: Thursday, May 15

Check-In: Begins at 5:00 PM

Presentation: Starts promptly at 5:30 PM

We will gather in the gym at 5:30 PM for a warm welcome and introductions. Following this, Kindergarten and Gr 1 – 5 new students will be escorted to their classrooms for some engaging activities with our dedicated Chris Akkerman teachers. Parents will have the opportunity to learn more about our school while the children participate in these activities.

We look forward to meeting our new students and their families. Invitations will be sent out shortly. Please feel free to share this information with any friends or family members who have been accepted to Chris Akkerman for the upcoming school year.

Staffing Update

Ms Williams is unlikely to return to CAS this school year. She will be back in the fall. We wish her the very best on her road to wellness. Ms Gledhill will be finishing off the school year with this grade 5 class. Ms Gledhill met the grade 5s this morning.

We are very sad to report that Mrs Fensom’s husband lost his courageous battle with cancer. Mrs Fensom will be spending the remaining part of this school year with family. We look forward to her return in the fall. Unfortunately, Teacher Ray was unable to remain at Chris Akkerman. We are fortunate though, Ms Pham, who was with the grade 4 students today will finish off the year with the Grade 4 students.

Ms Scanlan will be stepping out of her classroom and into a school wide leadership role leading all of our teachers with assessment, evaluation and reporting. While she will certainly be seen by her students and spend time with them, Ms Haikal will be with the grade 3s until the end of the school year.

Welcome to all of the amazing new teachers joining our team. We are excited to have you on our team.
