Photo Day & Formal Uniform Reminder – Monday
Monday is a formal uniform day for all students at Chris Akkerman School. Most students will have their individual and class photos taken on this day.
If your child is away on Monday, they can take their individual photo on Tuesday. Class photos will only be taken on Monday. Kindergarten students who attend on Tuesday/Thursday will have their class photo taken on Tuesday.
Formal Uniform Required for Photos
All students must wear their full formal uniform on Monday. This includes:
- Collared shirt
- Navy pants or jumper/dress
- TLC tie
- Cardigan
- Black shoes
- Dark socks or leggings
- Head coverings and accessories in TLC colours
If your child arrives without the correct uniform, we will call home to ask for the missing items. We hope all students are ready so no phone calls are needed.
Thank you for helping us make school photos a proud moment for our students.
Traffic Safety Reminder
This week, we experienced two serious incidents during morning drop-off: a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle, and there was a traffic accident. These events are deeply concerning and highlight the urgent need for safer practices around our school.
We continue to see:
- Jaywalking across busy streets
- U-turns directly in front of the school
- Excessive speeding
- Vehicles parking in the bus zone, which must remain clear at all times
These behaviours put children, families, and staff at risk.
We all share responsibility for student safety. Please model safe and respectful behaviour for our students. They see and hear everything happening outside, and we want them to learn from positive examples.
What you can do to help:
- Use designated crosswalks
- Follow posted speed limits
- Avoid U-turns and illegal parking
- Keep the bus zone clear
- Stay alert and patient during drop-off and pick-up
Let’s work together to make our school zone safe for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation and care.
Student Entry & Morning Sweeps
If your child arrives late, please bring them to the front doors. Once inside, they must check in by greeting Miss Shilpa and Miss Aziza before heading to class.
We appreciate families who wait patiently at the front office while students are checked in. Your support helps us get students to class quickly and safely.
Each morning, two staff members do a sweep outside after the bell to ensure all students have entered the building. If no staff are visible outside, please direct your child to the front doors. This helps build strong routines—especially important as colder weather approaches.
Thank you for helping us keep all students safe and accounted for.
Terry Fox Run – Thank You!
Today, our students took part in the Terry Fox Run and did an amazing job. We saw a proud Sea of Red as they ran for nearly 45 minutes to honour Terry Fox and his dream of finding a cure for cancer.
Terry Fox began the Marathon of Hope to raise money for cancer research after losing his leg to cancer. His courage and determination continue to inspire Canadians every year.
Thank you for sending in Toonies for Terry. Every dollar supports cancer research and helps keep Terry’s dream alive.

Demographics
All families will have received multiple reminders to fill in your demographics. These reminders would have come from the CBE. The due date for this was September 15. If you have not yet filled these in and checked them off, please do that right away. Also on these forms is your phone number, email and the contact information of your emergency contact. Please ensure you update this accurately with your current information. No child wants to sit at the office all day because we have been unable to get a hold of a parent or even an emergency contact. Please ensure you update all of your information!
School Council
We have an amazing group of very dedicated parent volunteers who help to support our school. They are always looking for more families to get involved. The first meeting this year will be on Thursday, September 25th at the school from 6PM – 7PM. All Chris Akkerman families are automatically members of School Council and welcome to attend the meetings. We hope to see you later this month. All dates for school council are on the school calendar.
School Council is always looking for families to get involved. It is only through your involvement in the school that we can continue to be the great place we are. We are hopeful to see many families out for our first school council meeting.
This month, in our School Leadership Report we will be discussing:
- Our School Development Plan - A look back and a look forward
- Staffing and Enrolment
- Residency Options - Spring
- Funding Possibilitites
September 22 Did you know?
Treaty 7 was signed on September 22, 1877, at Blackfoot Crossing (LINK), located on the Bow River in what is now southern Alberta. This agreement was between the Canadian Crown and several First Nations, including the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, Tsuu T'ina, and Stoney-Nakoda peoples. The treaty aimed to facilitate the Canadian government's planned transcontinental railway and westward expansion by gaining access to Indigenous lands, though its interpretation and long-term impacts are viewed differently by the Crown and the First Nations.
