Happy International Women’s Day! Honoring Women on International Women's Day !
This week celebrate International Women's Day, a time to recognize and appreciate the incredible contributions of women in our families, our communities, and the world. Women are the foundation of society—nurturing families, shaping the future through education, driving innovation in every field, and strengthening economies through their dedication and expertise. Their impact is immeasurable, and yet, despite their achievements, women continue to face significant challenges in 2025, including inequality, discrimination, and barriers to success.
As we mark this important day, let’s all take a moment to show our respect and appreciation for the women in our lives—our grandmothers, mothers, sisters, daughters, colleagues, and friends. Their resilience, strength, and unwavering commitment to making the world a better place deserves our recognition and support, not just today but every day. Together, we can build a society that truly values equity, inclusion, and respect for all.
Happy International Women's Day to the incredible women of our school community and beyond!
Parent-Teacher Conferences Mar. 20 & 21
Grade 1 – 5 Conferences March Thursday 20/ Friday 21 / Kindergarten Conferences March Friday14/ Thursday 20/ Friday21
All families in the CBE received notification about March Conferences being on-line later this month. At CAS we had planned student-led conferences, an opportunity for you to come in and review the work your children are doing, see what they can do and what their next right step is. Unfortunately, this is not going to be possible given the current labour action facing the CBE. In person conferences have been cancelled.
We have to pivot and move to online parent teacher conferences. Some of our grades have creatively decided they will send home specific work students have completed for the parent and teacher to have a conversation about your child’s achievements with their work in front of you. Our grade teams are all coming up with creative ways to conduct the conferences this term.
Conference bookings will open later in the day on Monday March 10. A text and e-mail reminder will be coming out on Monday to let our community know when conference booking opens.
Kindergarten – Tuesday /Thursday students will have class Friday March 14.
Conferences for Kindergarten will also include online bookings for families this Friday, March 14 from 7:45 – 11:30.

Alberta Education Assurance Survey – Grade 4 Families ONLY
If you are receiving this email, it is because you currently have a child in Grade 4 at Chris Akkerman School
As part of the ongoing commitment to providing a world-class education for Alberta’s children, Alberta Education will again be conducting their annual survey of grades 4, 7 and 10 students and their parents or guardians. The completion of the survey is voluntary and anonymous, as is completion of each question within the survey. The survey will gather important information about students’ and parents’ school experiences and will help to inform continuous improvement in our education system. The survey will also be sent to all teachers in the province. In some schools, all students in grades 4 and above – and their parents or guardians – will be surveyed.
To fill out the survey, please click on the survey link and enter the code below to begin the survey. If you have more than one student in grades 4, 7, and 10, you will need to do the survey for each child. In this case, you will receive a separate email with a different code for each child. Please know that only one Random Access Code(RAC) is provided per child for parents and only one parent response can be submitted as RACs are single use.

Professional Development Day Learning
Last week I wrote about our effort to curb/ eliminate theft at CAS. Many different strategies have been put into place in the school to assist our efforts to reduce the number of thefts that occur.
One example is - all students, in every class, has a buddy for washroom visits.
Parents – you were asked to discuss lunch with your child. Were you able to have a conversation about what your child wants to eat? If they need more food sent to school?
Have you labelled all of your child's items that come to school?
Have you double checked your child’s backpack for toys and novelties – to ensure they are not coming to class?
It is a collaborative effort that will reduce the theft in our building. Thank you for all you do to partner with us to ensure our students have a first class educational experience!
